The ESG Index provides an in-depth evaluation of the ESG performance of 60+ of the world’s largest mining companies. It assesses companies across 10 weighted indicators within 7 essential ESG pillars.

The Mining IQ ESG Index 2025:

In our quest to highlight best practices, we have profiled the top 10 mining companies based on their overall ESG scores in our index. This rigorous analysis showcases these leaders and benchmarks their performance against key ESG data points across the top mining companies globally.

The ESG Index also includes a benchmark of the best-performing companies in each of our seven pillars and across key commodities. This multifaceted approach allows stakeholders to identify leaders and laggards, fostering a competitive environment that encourages continuous improvement.

Methodology:

The data was collected from the 2024 and 2025 sustainability and annual reports of 60+ of the biggest mining companies by market capitalisation. Companies were assessed using 10+ individually weighted indicators across seven ESG categories: Safety, Carbon emissions, Diversity, Water, Waste management, and Social contributions.

Results were supplemented with findings from Mining IQ’s ESG Survey 2025, covering industry views on the top ESG priorities, and the industry’s ESG performance to date and outlook. The survey, sent to Aspermont clients and contacts in June and July 2025, was completed by 235 industry professionals from mining companies, service providers, consultants and other organisations.
